
Michaela Turcerová is a musician and composer from Banská Bystrica in Slovakia, currently living in Copenhagen. She plays alto/soprano saxophone and bass clarinet and composes in the realm of partly open scores, (un)conventional notations, conceptual ideas, minimalism, and often explores the use of physical space.
She leads her own bands, doudouči ensemble and ensemble šum.um, and is working on her solo project for modified alto saxophone, IN FLUX. She is also a member and part-composer of the band ALAWARI, Wolfskin Ensemble, and plays in the quartet mocean (music by Mark Ibsgaard Gregersen), Arcanepunk, Henrik Olsson’s Atumbra Ensemble, Asger Thomsen’s Rhizom, and in the Prague-based saxophone quartet MMMM.
She graduated with degrees in classical composition and classical saxophone from the Academy of Performing Arts in Banská Bystrica. Afterward, she moved to Prague to study jazz at HAMU and has completed her Master’s degree at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory.
In the past, she co-led the bands KIN and Szaturma, worked on the project Kolektív Ruiny: SILO, and played with the gypsy jazz band Maringotka from Banská Bystrica. Her musican heart was brought up in the garages and underground venues with Via Anima.
